Sweater Weather Nails: The Fall 2026 Shades Taking Over Brooklyn
The minute the first iced coffee of the season turns into a hot one, something happens to our appointment book. The pastel requests vanish. The neons go into hibernation. And suddenly everyone wants their nails to look like a glass of good red wine.
We're not mad about it. Fall is the season where a one-color manicure does all the talking — no nail art required (though we'll get to that). Here are the shades our Greenpoint and Williamsburg clients are asking for by name right now.
Cherry Cola is the new black
Forget the inky vamp of seasons past. This year's dark nail has warmth: a brown-red that reads almost black indoors and glows ruby by the window. It's moody without being try-hard, and it works on every length, from a tidy short square to a long almond. Pair it with chunky gold rings and an oversized sweater and you're basically a mood board.
The perfect classic red
Some things don't need a trend report. A clean, true red on short rounded nails is timeless at any age, and it looks especially chic once the city goes gray. If you only book one fall color, make it this one.
Burnt orange, but make it grown-up
Pumpkin spice, but in a manicure that doesn't scream "Halloween party." A saturated, slightly dusty orange is high-impact and still somehow wearable to work. Want to go further? Do a gradient — orange on the pinky melting into red on the index — for a sunset effect that's very autumn-in-a-photo.
’70s swirl
Rust nails with curved black tips, plus cream accents where ribbons of mustard, cobalt and burnt orange swirl like a vintage album cover. It’s fall through a thrift-store lens: suede jackets, record crates and a chunky cardigan you scored at a consignment shop.
Cranberry crush
A juicy, high-gloss cranberry on soft almond nails, deeper than cherry and brighter than wine. It looks especially good next to a cream cable-knit and a bodega full of mums, and it’ll take you straight through Thanksgiving.
Pumpkin Spice Latte
Glossy, see-through shades of pumpkin, nutmeg and cinnamon that warm up a little more on each nail, from pinky to index. It’s your favorite fall order in nail form, best enjoyed with an actual latte from our café. It’s your favorite fall order in nail form, best enjoyed with an actual latte from our café.
Rust and terracotta for the earth-tone girlies
Rust is the shade for people who think brown is boring. It's warmer than chocolate, softer than orange, and it flatters basically every skin tone — which is why it's the color we see most on short, natural nails. Think vintage leather jacket, think the last leaves on McCarren Park's trees.
Why non-toxic matters when you go dark
Deep shades mean more coats and more pigment, which is exactly when ingredients matter. At Lili and Cata Nail Saloon we use non-toxic formulas — including quick-drying, long-wear polishes like Dazzle Dry — so you get the richness of a dark fall shade without the harsh fumes. Your nails stay healthier between appointments, and you're out the door (and back to your latte) faster.
How to make a fall manicure last
Keep length short to medium; dark polish shows tip wear faster on very long nails.
Cuticle oil every night. Dry radiator air is coming for your hands.
Wear gloves when you wash dishes. Yes, really.
Book a refresh every two to three weeks so the color always looks fresh.
